Femdom-ish Book Review Round-up November 2012

This month there's a book/novella (40k words) published by Carina Press, Forbidden Desires by Jodie Griffin. DearAuthor reviews Forbidden Desires by Jodie Griffin and finds it a bit, meh. Predictably, the heroine is actually submissive and the plot device that makes the desires 'forbidden' doesn't make much sense (-well I say that, it sounds like the forbidden bit is mainly just her going 'oh, I'm so naughty for wanting to be dominant, but that's fine, because I'm submissive anyhow').

Her Majesty's Plaything reviewed The Softness of His Fur, which sounds like a much better bet. A fantasy/alternative world pet/owner relationship between a domme and her pup, this seems like it would appeal to anyone interested in F/m pet play. Also, it has a truly awesome cover. I like the cover a great deal. The second instalment is available too, with the slightly less catchy, Beyond the Softness of his Fur #2.

I also noticed The Viscountess Investigates by Cameron Quintain. It sells itself as kinky universe Victorian mistress/slave team detective story. This sounds like a lot to take on in a 200 page book, but hey, it's an interesting concept. If you've read it, let me know what you thought of it.

What have you been reading this month? Have you found some wonderful new femdom fiction?

  1. Kayla Stonor is a new author writing strong male, stronger-female type of novels. (I hesitate to write femdom because the mere mention of femdom will usually set most mainstream readers off). She has good reviews on amazon.com so your blog readers might want to give them a try as one of her ebooks sell only for 99 cents.

Personally I find her books a little blend for my taste but they are still much much better than some of the utterly unreadable stuff in this genre I bought over the years. Maybe I should compile a "Givememymoneyback!-Femdom Books to Avoid" list in the future to match your femdom book list : )

I read "servants of destiny" by Tammyjo Eckhart (author of 'his fur' series) and I wasn't really impressed...but I am sure she has her fans. To each his/her own I guess.

Just been looking up Kayla Stonor. Her latest book's tagline is: "He ruined her career. She locked him in chastity."

That is seriously good bait, let's hope the book delivers.

The "Givememymoneyback!-Femdom Books to Avoid" list might be rather long and depressing! And also quite useful! I don't know about Tammyjo Eckhart - I haven't read anything by her. Authors can have 'off-books', and as you say, different people like different books. I'm thinking that these book roundups might feature femdom type books that I wouldn't get around to reading myself, but others might want to. Just to raise the profile of some of the femdom-esque books that come out and/or are reviewed really.

Thanks for the rec, and for dropping by.

    2. Just as a little update to this, I read the extract of the Kayla Stonor book. It portrays chastity as a sick deviation and it sickens the heroine, who has to become involved because she's a TSTL undercover agent. I stopped there.

    3. I read the whole thing. It starts that way but ends very differently.

  2. Kathleen Bradean, of Erotica Revealed.com reviewed The Viscountess Investigates and liked it. This is my favorite quote from the review:

"Because this is high fantasy BDSM, the sex is of the non-stop, balls-to-the-wall, everything and the kitchen sink plus a bag of chips, don't try this at home variety."

I haven't read the book yet, but plan to as it looks like great fun, and yes, actual femdom.

    1. Thanks for that, it's a revealing review I think, in this quote: " It's so over the top that no one could ever feel threatened by it. It's just good, naughty fun."
